As part of activities marking its 70th anniversary, the alumni association of Egbeoba High School (EHS), Ikole-Ekiti, has commenced landmark legacy projects worth N300 million.
The projects include a state-of-the-art ICT centre valued at N250 million and a N50 million school bus.
The projects, facilitated by members of the alumni association worldwide, are aimed at strengthening the institution’s infrastructure and positioning it for greater academic excellence in the digital age.
Addressing newsmen at the school premises in Ikole-Ekiti, the President of the alumni association, Professor Femi Omotoso, described the initiatives as a renewal of commitment to the growth and transformation of their alma mater.
Established on February 15, 1956, through the missionary efforts of the Methodist Mission in Nigeria led by Rev. E.J. Jones and supported by Rev. D.B. Esan, Rev. A.O. Orekoya and others, Egbeoba High School has grown into one of the notable institutions in the South-West.
However, between 1998 and 2000, a Federal Government restructuring led to the displacement of the school from its original campus of 46 years to make way for a Federal Government College.
The alumni noted that ICT facility, when completed, is to equip students with contemporary digital skills and bridge technological gaps, ensuring they remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
He added that the procurement of a N50 million school bus is expected to ease transportation challenges and enhance students’ participation in academic and extracurricular engagements.

Omotoso, a professor of Political Science at Ekiti State University (EKSU), explained that the growing adoption of computer-based tests for external examinations in the country made it imperative for students to be exposed to modern ICT techniques.
He said, “Despite past setbacks, Egbeoba High School continues to excel in external examinations such as WAEC and NECO in performances, state and national academic competitions, leadership training and extra-curricular distinctions.
“The school remains a respected custodian of educational heritage and a vibrant incubator of future leaders.”
He noted that students of the school in recent years have recorded remarkable milestones in both local and national academic contests across the country.
The alumni president commended the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for its support to the education sector in the state, urging the government to invest more in technology-driven learning to make students nationally and globally competitive.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Ayodele Ajiboye, alongside other members of the association, appealed to the Federal Government to return the school to its original location.
They argued that such a decision would help the school maintain its identity and provide the needed space for future expansion.
