A source in the anti-graft agency informed the Nigerian Tribune that the money was recovered from six banks, being withholding tax on dividends.
According to the source, seven other banks were placed on the watchlist of the commission, adding that EFCC might move against them soon to recover their withholding tax on dividends.
The source, however, refused to name the banks from which the money was recovered, as well as those on the radar of the anti-graft agency.
The commission, it was learned, had been investigating the sharp practices of not paying the taxes on dividends by some financial institutions in the country.
Efforts made to reach EFCC’s Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, for confirmation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
