The Edo State government has said all its activities will be conducted on e-platforms beginning September 1, 2023, even as it admonished State civil servants to brace up and key into the policy.
The State Head of Service, Barrister Anthony Okungbowa, disclosed this during a re-orientation exercise for workers at the State Sports Commission.
Okungbowa said the exercise was to ensure that personnel are carried along with the policy, adding that e-governance will ensure speed in getting jobs done and abolish physical files.
Represented by Dr Peter Osagie, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the HOS said staff would therefore not be required to move from one office to the other.
According to him, “There will be login credentials for individuals to access the e-government network.
“Workers can also use their Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access the e-govern platform from anywhere.
“From September 1, any worker who can’t use e-governance can’t go on leave or attend any programme that requires Duty Tour Allowance (DTA),” he stated.
Governor Godwin Obaseki, while hinting at the policy in 2021, said the State would leverage technology because it is the new order of the world.
He said: Nigeria’s public and civil service are weak and need help because whatever policy and pronouncements made by the government will not work because the civil service is weak”.
Corroborating the head of the service, Mr Goodluck Igbinedion, Managing Director, Edo Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), said the innovation would make governance seamless.
“It takes care of missing files, and no file will stay more than 48 hours on any desk. This will not only ensure accountability but also high efficiency in public service delivery
“It’s easy to track whoever leaks public documents.
It will aid sincerity and transparency in governance,” said Igbinedion.
