The Coalition Convener, Obed Agu who spoke during a world press conference in Abuja, expressed excitement over various economic reforms initiated by the present administration especially in the oil and gas sector.
He said: “It is with a joyful heart that I address our nation today. This joy stems from the fact that, amid all the challenges citizens face in our country, we all agree that the government is moving in the right direction under the guidance of the President.
“This conclusion was not reached flippantly, but rather after intensive analysis and extensive consideration of all indices of a nation’s growth and development. The bold and decisive steps the president has taken are the way forward and have not been faulted by any credible domestic or international organisation.
“These are just a few of conclusions reached at the 3 quarterly review session of the Renewed Hope Interest Defenders. From February 2024 when the President signed three major executive orders which includes: The Presidential Executive Order 2024 – (Oil and Gas Companies Tax Incentives, & Exemption, Remission) which introduces incentives, such as Tax Credits and exemptions on equipment for clean technologies like LPG and CNG to improve fiscal competitiveness.
“Presidential Directive on Local Content Compliance Requirements, 2024 aims to strengthen the use of local content within the oil and gas sector.
“Presidential Directive on Reduction of Petroleum Sector Contracting Costs and Timelines 2024 which seeks to streamline contracting processes, removal of Subsidy, Support for Local refineries, crude to domestic refineries all of which are geared towards attracting investments, enhance transparency, boost operational efficiency and increase loca) participation and benefits cutting delays, brane back big investors and setting the stage for cheaper fuel and lower food prices.
“Nigerians will admit that the focus of the President is clear and the reforms at the top are beginning to make life easier with cheaper fuel, lower inflation, and real benefits for the ordinary Nigerian.”
He however noted that the Coalition has identified some challenges and hurdles that limit Mr. President’s good intentions, which he alleged “can be found in the leadership of our nation’s oil company the NNPCL.
“The Corporation is primarily tasked with the actualisation of the oil industry plans of the government and to drive efficiency, increased revenue and better services for Nigerians from our natural resources. It will be unfair that the President is working for Nigerians while those who he appointed have succumbed to the taste of the perks of their office and have abandoned both the President and the Nigerian people,” he alleged.
While calling for a leadership change in the company, over 150 members of the Coalition staged peaceful protest to NNPCL headquarters.
Some the placards displayed by the protesters read: ‘President Tinubu’s economic reforms are unparalleled, Bayo Ojulari is the problem’; ‘Renewed Hope Interest Defenders salutes President Ahmed Bola Tinubu on his economic policy reform’; ‘EFCC probe Bayo Ojulari’s economic sabotage’; ‘Oil industry is standing still since 6 months because of Ojulari’s failures,’ and others.
