The five-man team set up by the Federal Government to ascertain the level of environmental degradation in Nasarawa State, has raised the alarm over the state of environmental devastation in the state.
The leader of the team, Sule Umar, while briefing journalists shortly after he visited the flash points in Doma and Lafia Local Government Area of the State, said that the state has been hit by a chunk of ecological problems.
Umar who disclosed that, the team was constituted as a result of consistent request from the state government, said that most of the sites visited have been eroded by gully erosion and oil spillage.
“You might be wondering why I am talking about oil spillage in the north, I want to assure you that we do have. The used oil poured away by the mechanics in our environments spilled over to other areas leaving blockages which constitute oil spillage challenges.”
Umar, however, commended Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura for constructing drainages across the state to cushion the effect of the devastation.
He also said that, there is a need for the Federal Government to immediately wade into the problem to curb the spread of the devastation in the state.
