Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Barrister Yakubu Dogara, has expressed shock over the death of the Emir of Tikau in Yobe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Grema Ibn Shuwa.
The late Emir died on Friday, May 10, 2024, after a brief illness.
In a message he personally signed, Yakubu Dogara, who holds the traditional title of Jarman Tikau, wrote, “I received with shock the news of the demise of His Royal Highness, Mai Tikau, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Grema Ibn Shuwa, which occurred on Friday, May 10, 2024.”
According to him, “His death is a huge loss not just to Yobe State but the country at large.”
The former Speaker further wrote, “He was a patriot, a father to all, a man of peace, a renowned educationist, and an advocate for sustainable development through his advocacy for tree planting to curb desertification.”
“He was a man who showed love to all, irrespective of regional or political affiliation. It was under his leadership that people from different parts of the country, including my humble self, were recognized and conferred with prestigious traditional titles, which helped to foster national unity and social cohesion,” he added.
Yakubu Dogara also wrote, “I condole with his immediate family, members of the Emirate Council, the government, and people of Yobe State over this irreparable loss. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”
