Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, can be found in most kitchens and has many surprising uses beyond the culinary realm.

Contents
  • 1. Natural Cleaning Agent
  • 2. Deodorize Your Fridge
  • 3. Soothe insect bites and stings
  • 4. Fire Extinguisher
  • 5. Odour Eliminator for Shoes

It is a versatile and inexpensive household item that goes far beyond its role as a leavening agent in baking.

From cleaning to personal care, gardening, and more, here are some incredibly useful baking soda hacks everyone should know.

1. Natural Cleaning Agent

Baking soda’s gentle abrasive properties make it an ideal choice for scrubbing sinks, countertops, and stovetops.

Mix it with water to create a paste for tackling tough surface stains.

2. Deodorize Your Fridge

If your refrigerator harbours unpleasant odours, place an open box of baking soda on one of the shelves to neutralise those smells.

It will keep your fridge smelling fresh for weeks.

3. Soothe insect bites and stings

Mixing baking soda with a little water to form a paste can relieve itching and discomfort caused by insect bites and stings.

Apply the paste to the affected area, dry it, and then rinse it.

4. Fire Extinguisher

In case of a small grease fire in the kitchen, you can use baking soda as an emergency fire extinguisher.

Sprinkle it over the flames to extinguish the fire safely.

5. Odour Eliminator for Shoes

If you have stinky shoes, sprinkle baking soda inside to absorb moisture and eliminate odours.

Remember to shake out the excess before putting them on.

In conclusion, baking soda is budget-friendly and can simplify your life in many ways. These hacks are just the tip of the iceberg regarding their practical applications.

So, keep a box of baking soda in your home for all your household needs.
