The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuhu, has bagged the African Leadership Magazine Award of Excellence.
The award was presented by the Editor, African Leadership Magazine, Mr Kingsley Okeke to the DG at the NCAA’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
The development came just as the leadership of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has also passed a vote of confidence on his leadership.
The award presentation was witnessed by two prominent members of the United States Black Caucus, Honourable Dee Dawkins-Hagler (ex-chair, Georgia Legislative Black Caucus) and Honourable Laura-Hall (President-elect, National Black Caucus of State Legislators).
Adducing reasons for the award, Mr Okeke said Captain Musa earned the award on account of his meritorious services for the growth and development of the aviation industry which Okeke became manifested when Captain Musa was in the forefront to lead the processes leading to the gradual and strategic resumption of flights operation after it was shut down saying: “It was a testimony of hard work combined with team spirit.”
According to Okeke: “when Nigeria opened her airports, a lot of countries had not done so. This made Nigeria a case study for countries looking for options on how to navigate their aviation business through the pandemic.”
In his response, the DG thanked the body for the award which he said will spur him and his team to work harder even as he attributed the absence of serious incidents or accidents in the last few years to the fruit of the concerted efforts by the regulatory authority.
While admitting that there were challenges to be surmounted, the DG said NCAA had enjoyed huge support from stakeholders including the supervising Ministry of Aviation led by Senator Hadi Sirika who assisted the Authority in navigating troubled coronavirus waters.
Promising that the Authority will not relent in its mandate of providing air safety for passengers in Nigeria and indeed the entire continent of Africa, Captain Nuhu dedicated the award to the entire management and staff of NCAA for the team spirit that led to these milestones.
Prominent among those in attendance to witness the award presentation were Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Captain Folayele Akinkuotu; NCAA Director of Air Transport Regulation (DATR), Group Captain Edem Oyo-Ita (Rtd.); Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards (DAAS), Engineer Tayyib Odunowo; and Director of Operations, Licensing and Training Standards (DOLTS), Captain Elisha Bahago.
