DevOps Nigeria has secured strategic partnerships with global and local tech companies, as well as prominent NGOs, DevoPs Nigeria aims to equip thousands of young Nigerians with in-demand DevOps expertise, addressing both the global tech skills gap and the high unemployment rate among Nigerian youths. Launched in 2023 by Ridwan Ademola, DevOps Nigeria is set to train over 10,000 youths by 2029, providing them with hands-on training in DevOps methodologies and tools.
As global demand for DevOps professionals continues to rise, DevoPs Nigeria is positioning Nigeria as a key player in the industry.
DevOps Nigeria has secured key partnerships with major tech players, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, TechQuest STEM Academy, and Civic Hive, to offer comprehensive, world-class DevOps training programs. Through these partnerships, the program aims to produce 1,000 certified DevOps professionals annually, helping to meet the demand for over 20,000 DevOps-related jobs projected to open in Nigeria by 2027. This effort is part of Ademola’s broader vision to establish DevOps Nigeria as a hub for DevOps talent in West Africa.
“We are bridging the skills gap between what the market demands and what young Nigerians possess. This program will empower them to take on high-paying, in-demand roles both locally and globally,” Ademola shared during the announcement.
DevOps Nigeria’s training program is designed to be practical and hands-on, offering participants access to live projects, internships, and mentorship. Over 500 students began their training in Since 2023, with plans to increase that number to 5,000 by 2026. The program covers core DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and AWS Cloud, providing trainees with the technical knowledge needed to manage the full software development lifecycle—from coding and testing to deployment and monitoring.
With Nigeria’s unemployment rate currently standing at 33.3%, the need for initiatives like DevOps Nigeria is more urgent than ever. The tech industry, especially DevOps, is one of the few sectors offering significant opportunities for growth and job creation. By focusing on providing affordable and effective training, DevOps Nigeria is tackling the country’s skills shortage head-on. The initiative aims to train youths from diverse educational backgrounds, including those with no prior experience in tech, empowering them to build sustainable careers in DevOps. The DevOps Nigeria program will also support the local economy by filling the 10,000+ open DevOps job roles across Nigerian companies that are struggling to find qualified professionals. The rise of digital transformation and cloud computing in Africa means that DevOps skills are increasingly essential for local and international businesses operating in the region.
Ademola emphasized, “The beauty of DevOps is that it allows for remote work, which means our graduates can work for companies anywhere in the world while contributing to Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem.” By training and placing thousands of Nigerian youths in DevOps roles, DevOps Nigeria is not only solving the skills shortage but also creating a pipeline of highly skilled professionals ready to meet the demands of the tech industry. This will have a ripple effect on Nigerian businesses, which will be able to leverage DevOps’ best practices to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and accelerate innovation.
Furthermore, the program is positioned to inspire other countries across Africa to adopt similar models, contributing to the continent’s growing prominence in the global tech arena.
DevOps Nigeria’s initiative is poised to reshape the future of Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. With plans to expand the program significantly over the next few years, Ademola’s vision is creating new opportunities for youth employment, empowering Nigerians with global skills, and positioning the country as a key player in the global DevOps market
