THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Enugu West Senatorial Zone on Sunday endorsed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for re-election in 2019 just as the people of the zone led by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, prayed for quick recovery of President Muhammed Buhari.
The endorsement of Ugwuanyi came few days the immediate-past governor of the state, Sullivan Chime, who hails from the zone, boasted during his formal defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Udi that no PDP candidate will win gubernatorial poll in next political dispensation.
Rising from their zonal meeting held at Awgu Local Government Secretariat, Chief Ekweremadu extolled the virtue of Ugwuanyi, describing him as a miracle worker, saying he has improved the lives of people through aggressive development of infrastructure across the state.
Senator Ekweremadu explained that it was in realisation of the leadership qualities that informed them to back the governor for another tenure.
“Our gathering here today is basically an enlarged meeting of Enugu-West senatorial zone. In the meeting, we to decide what will happen in 2019. We are delighted with the achievements of our Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and so we have decided to back him for re-election in 2019,” he added.
“We are satisfied with your performances in two years. We are excited with the appointments, roads, infrastructural facilities. Look at the roads, you have excelled and you deserve our support.”
On the health of President Buhari, Ekweremade said, we are humans. Let us pause for a moment and pray for our president who sick. He is our president and we owe him prayers that God will grant quick recuperation. We pray God heals him to return back to the country quickly”
Governor Ugwuanyi, who said he was invited to observe the meeting, remarked that he was overwhelmed with the support he received from the zone, stressing that his endorsement would spur him to work harder.
Ugwuanyi said “Ikeoha Ndigbo we are proud of you. I am excited with outcome of Enugu-West Zonal meeting. I assure you I will continue to serve you with fear of God. I am excited to PDP the party that made me went to National Assembly and governor. We have provided a level playing ground for all, politically and otherwise.
The governor also said that his administration would hold local government election this year, adding that he will re-jig the apparatus of his regime to make it more effective.
“The College of Education, the community is going to be upgraded to a university while empowerment to the people to start in full force,” he concluded.
