The dream of a wildlife and leisure parks in Delta State has hit the rocks as the state government makes a U-turn by divesting its interest in the projects.
The wild life park was being established in Ogwashi uku while the leisure park was located in Warri of which the present administration has returned the land acquired for the purpose to the communities.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, on the issue at an interactive session, the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa said the state government which was deceived into the project decided to wash off its hand because the private sector partners were not sincere and that there was no sign of any wild life park.
According to him, the state government would not continue with the projects because no investor had come for the wild life park stressing that even at Oleri Park, the investor had turned into a contractor.
Speaking on the Asaba airport, the governor disclosed that one of the three runways and the taxiway has been fixed while the other two runways would be ready by July.
The governor disclosed that the installation of the Instrument Landing System(ILS) was on course to enable planes land at night and in hazy weather, stating that the state government was committed to finishing the rehabilitation work at the airport as scheduled having secured grants to facilitate its completion.
“We have lost a lot as a state, because the runway was not functioning,” the governor explained.
