The only opposition member in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Pastor Osafile Stella, has revealed that she has been taunted for defecting from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) instead of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She made this known in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tribune shortly after Monday’s plenary session.
Osafile, however, said she has developed a thick skin to navigate the realities of politics, noting that criticism and taunts are inevitable.
“Of course, I am being taunted. But in this sector, you need to develop a thick skin. If not, you won’t forge ahead,” she said.

Speaking on whether the ADC has assured her of a return ticket, the lawmaker maintained that her political decisions are guided by the will of her constituents, stressing that the party already has an established structure ahead of the next election.
“The party is not new. The structures are there. My people are the ones who urged me to go ahead. It is the people I represent that asked me to move to ADC,” she stated.
On the relationship between religion and politics, Osafile emphasised that Nigeria is a secular state, adding that participation in politics transcends religious affiliation.
“To be sincere, who you are will reflect in your politicking. After God’s authority, the next is government. So, you can’t shy away from it,” the lawmaker said.
Osafile, who chairs the House Committee on Wealth Creation and Employment, also dismissed insinuations that she faces discrimination from the Speaker due to her party affiliation.
According to her, the Speaker, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, understands his responsibilities and performs his duties within the confines of the law.
“When I campaigned, I talked about capacity, competence and character. I believe the Speaker puts a round peg in a round hole. Based on my background, I wouldn’t say there is discrimination.
“Apart from politicking, he is a man who knows his job. After politics, we are all here for governance.
“He gave me a good ground to operate. He laid aside party differences and adhered to the Constitution,” she added.
