The Dangote Group of Companies has announced that it has fully integrated sustainability into all aspects of its operations by adopting seven out of the fourteen sustainable development goals for environmental sustainability.
Dr Egazuema Okoreba, the Sustainability Manager of Dangote Group Pan Africa, disclosed this during a two-day Environmental Journalism training workshop organized for journalists from Kogi, Benue, FCT, Kwara, and Niger States. The workshop took place at Dangote Academy, Obaja, Kogi State.
Dr Okoreba urged journalists to go beyond reporting on the finances, profits, and losses of the Dangote Group and focus on the company’s environmental sustainability policies.
She emphasized the importance of reporting on the seven pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the group, which include areas related to the economy, social institutions, and the environment.
The workshop, organized by the Dangote Group of Companies in collaboration with CAMIC as a media partner, aimed to equip journalists with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively report on environmental issues for sustainability.
Dr Okoreba explained that the workshop was essential for journalists to understand the international standards followed by the Dangote Group in its environmental sustainability policies.
Dr Okoreba highlighted that the Dangote Group has been actively involved in environmental sustainability initiatives since 2017 and 2018.
The company’s interventions in environmental sustainability cover areas such as finance, operational institutions, and culture.
She called on the media to take the lead in reporting on environmental sustainability and raising awareness about the importance of conscious reporting and campaigns on sustainability.
