A Lagos based graduate and research school, Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) have said it was only the outcome based education that could help Nigeria solve it huge graduate unemployment and socio-economic problems.
The centre director, Prof Anthony Kila, stated this during the recent inauguration of a new set of the students for the centre at Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, saying it is high time that Nigeria based its knowledge and skills acquisition for students on outcome-based education.
According to him, outcome based education concerns more on practical knowledge than theories like many Nigerian schools are known for.
That is why CIAPS, he said, combines only best of theories with the best of practices but with an emphasis more on the latter at both the postgraduate and professional classes.
“Our aim is to be the factory of professionals that will lead their chosen industries as innovators and solution finders,” he stressed.
Kila, a professor of strategy, said it was disheartening that many graduates from Nigerian schools have no requisite skills despite attaining such high level of education certificates that could enable them to contribute meaningfully to their chosen fields let alone societal advancement.

He said students needed to be trained based on world economic reality and with the mind of becoming solution providers upon graduation.
“And it is only through Z-A (and not the usual A-Z) approach where students from the outset zero in their minds on whom they want to be and do in future and be guided in that pattern that such could be attained,” he explained.
Welcoming new students, who are into various programmes such as international masters in public policy and development, hotel and tourism management, media and communications, professional certificate in school management, political campaign management, production and operation management and so on, into the school, Kila, said their training was to make them better managers in their chosen fields.
He also told outgoing students, some of whom showcased their projects at the vent, to remain committed to contributing their own quota in making the world a better place for all to leave.
