WIFE of Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan and president, UI Women Society for Children, Dr Eyiwumi Olayinka, has charged children to be good to their parents and the society at large.
This, she said, will have a positive impact on their lives, families and the society.
She stated this last Thursday at the annual End of the Year Party organised by UI Women Society for Children which took place at the VC’s Lodge.
According to Dr Olayinka, the reason for putting the party together every year is to make children in the university community happy in a homely atmosphere, have fun and also enjoy a mother-child interaction with the Women Society.
While delivering her welcome address, Dr Olayinka expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to hold the programme again and also thanked parents for releasing their children.
She also appreciated the parents for taking good care of their children in spite of the economic challenges in the country as she charged every child to be of good behaviour to their parents and anywhere they find themselves, stating that “it brings peace as well as commands blessings from God and parents at the same time.”
She also praised the officials of the University of Ibadan for joining hands with the society to put the programme together and also expressed hope to receive more support subsequently.
She prayed for God’s protection and all success for every child in the New Year.
The children however showed their appreciation in a chorus to the president’s charge by promising to heed her advice as in the New Year.
Among other activities which marked the celebration were Spelling Bee competition, dance competition, ‘pick a number’ game, fun in the bouncing castle, among others, while gifts were presented to winners at the end of the competitions.
Dr Oluwakemi Ademola-Aremu, the welfare officer of the group, gave kudos to the competitors, especially the winners of the Spelling Bees, noting that their performances showed their level of intelligence and academic prowess.
She admonished them to keep being their best at their various schools and encouraged those who did not win any prize to put more effort.
