Popular Nigerian skit maker, Oderhowho Joseph Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, has explained why he stopped attending church, saying he became uncomfortable with the way some pastors relate with their members.

Speaking during a livestream on Twitch, the entertainer said his decision was influenced by what he described as a pattern where certain pastors become close to members and later begin to ask them for money.

According to him, the relationship often starts with friendly gestures such as regular phone calls and personal attention, but may later turn into repeated requests for financial support.

“Pastor go dey show you love dey call you for afternoon and evening.”

He said some pastors may begin by asking for small things like money for fuel or food items, and then continue making similar requests over time.

“Before you know, pastor go dey tell you say ‘can you give me money for fuel?’ before you know, pastor go tell you say ‘I want to cook beans, I need oil’.”

Carter Efe stated that the experience made him uneasy and pushed him away from going to church.

“Before you know, pastor go dey collect money for your hand na why I dey fear. Na why I no dey go church. I dey fear all these pastors, if them turn you to friend, them go just dey collect money for your hand…” he said.
