Can I marry a HIV positive man?

Published by

I recently met a man whom I love very much. During a routine medical test, he was found to be HIV positive while I am not. Despite this, he wants me to marry him. Please advise me on what to do as I love him very much.

Recent developments in the management of HIV have made it possible for HIV positive people to marry each other or marry HIV negative people and still have healthy children. Many couples in which one person is HIV positive and the other person isn’t,  with some careful planning can still have a safe and successful pregnancy while preventing HIV from passing to the HIV-negative partner (or to the baby). It is very important to discuss your desires and intentions for childbearing with a HIV specialist at the nearest health facility to you before you decide to become pregnant. The specialist can help with decisions about how to conceive safely and at the same time avoid being infected by your HIV positive spouse.
