President Muhammadu Buhari has renamed the National Stadium Abuja after the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.
He made the announcement during his address at the inaugural marking of June 12 as Democracy Day in honour of the 1993 election that was thought to be the freest in the democratic history of Nigeria.

The president had June 6, 2018, conferred the highest honour in the land, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the late Ogun state born politician.
Former President Goodluck had initially renamed the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after him but was roundly rejected in some quarters.
