In a a bid to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, the member representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Council federal constituency, Kadiri Rahis, has distributed laptops, food and items to his constituents.

Speaking during the flagging off of the distribution at Foshams Hall in Maiduguri on Saturday, Rahis said the gesture was designed to help launch the beneficiaries into the digital age and reduce the high unemployment rate, poverty and negative effects of fuel subsidy removal in Maiduguri.

He noted that, the beneficiaries were selected among the poor and vulnerable people within Maiduguri metropolitan irrespective of political affiliation, tribe or faith.

“”Fuel subsidy removal has forced price of goods to skyrocketed, making it difficult for parents and students to secure basic academic materials, school fees and other requirements,”

“As I’m talking to you, I presently subsidize tuition fees for some students in the tertiary, secondary and primary school to improve their lives”.

“We need to support our people, this is today we are given laptops to 60 students, distributing bags of rice, sewing machines, water pumps, and generators among other items”.

“I have set a committee who are currently screening 300 students for N50,000 scholarship each in all the 15 wards in my constituency”.

He explained that, as peace gradually returns, he will continue to do his best to better the lives of his people, irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliations.

He commended governor Babagana Zulum, the security agencies and other stakeholders for teamwork, which led to the degrading of terrorists and the relative peace currently witnessed in the state and North East subregion.
