Be enterprising, Mubi Poly charges matriculants

COMMISSIONER for Youth and Sports, Adamawa State, Mr Alloysous Babadoki, has charged students at the 37th matriculation ceremony of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, to be enterprising.

The polytechnic matriculated about 500 students into various faculties in its Yola campus of the institution over the weekend.

Mr Babadoki, who was a special guest of honour at the occasion, also encouraged the newly-admitted students to have an entrepreneurship mindset in their pursuit of academic excellence.

He said: “Entrepreneurship helps in the developing communication and sales skills, which are key components of business today.”

He noted that a recent survey had revealed that many graduates in Nigeria had no job after graduation, adding that Steve Jobs, one of the key figures behind technology giant, Apple, said his mindset towards entrepreneurship was the key for the success of the brand.

The commissioner urged the students to concentrate on skill acquisition, as it would be their strong base to becoming successful in life.

In his remarks, the acting rector of the polytechnic, Dr Abdulrahman Ishiaka, congratulated the students for securing admission to the school and encouraged them to take every aspect of their studies very seriously.

“I urge you to be law-abiding students; refrain from acts that are capable of disrupting the peace and progress of the institution,” he said.

Dr Ishiaka also urged them to observe all the COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical protocols.

Earlier, the director of Entrepreneurship and Programmes of the institution, Dr Kacha Ta’awu disclosed that the Entrepreneurship Department had been able to generate revenue for the school through its foundry, agro-processing, fish, meat business committee and the ICT units.

Dr Ta’awu, who is a graduate of the institution, said that students of the school, after going through the Entrepreneurship Education (EED) programme of the institution, had been equipped on how to be employment givers and not employment seekers.

He appealed to the management of the school to convert the hall by the riverside to host agro-processing/agric business.
