The Chairman Campaign Council for the Jos North /Bassa House of Representatives and State Assembly by-election in Plateau State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has stated that any attempt to use the instrumentality of government to rig the election will be resisted saying that the election will also be a litmus test for 2023 general election.
Addressing newsmen in Jos ahead of Saturday election, Governor Mohammed who said PDP is fully prepared for the by-election and well-positioned to win added that all the previous problems that characterised the party have been resolved and the party is now one big family in the state.
“We are here to contribute our quota and to give support to the Plateau State chapter of the PDP to win the Saturday election. Everybody knows that Plateau is PDP and PDP is Plateau, we are happy and grateful to our elders for closing ranks and for making sure that there is unity and this gives us the confidence that Saturday’s election will be won by our party.
“We have made an adequate arrangement that we are short-changed and we don’t want to shortchange anybody. All we need is a level playing ground so that no one is rigged out. We are not going to sit back and allow anybody to rig us out of the election.
“And if anyone thinks he can use the instrumentality of government then he must be joking because we will ensure that this does not happen. We respect everybody, the election is coming in 2023 but this election is a litmus test,” he said.
He said in as much as the party respect the constituted authorities, the security agencies, INEC and others should also reciprocate the gesture to make sure that the party is not short-changed by doing the right thing.
Said he: “We are going by the rules, we are going into this election with a lot of experience, we are not taking chances. We want to assure our supporters that we are alive to our responsibility. We have confidence and faith in INEC, also we have anticipated what the other side will do but it is not going to be business as usual.”
Governor Mohammed added that the chances of PDP in the two by-elections in the state are bright adding that the two candidates are astute and dogged politicians with a lot of experience.
