ABOUT seven policemen were on Monday ambushed and killed by suspected bandits, while their patrol vehicle was burnt on Tofa-Magami Road area in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

An indigene of the area, Salisu Sani, told the Nigerian Tribune that the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Monday when the policemen were on patrol in the area.

Sani said: “The bandits ambushed the police personnel, killed seven of them and set their operational vehicle ablaze.”

He stated that the bandits, who were in large numbers, engaged the police operatives in a gun battle in which seven of them were killed.

The source said: “I saw their dead bodies being evacuated to Gusau.”

Spokesperson for the state police command, SP Mohammed Shehu, did not respond to calls made to him to confirm the development as of the time of filing this report.

However, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, Awwal Ruwan-Doruwa, confirmed that seven dead bodies of the slain policemen were brought to the hospital.
