Arrogance will destroy APC ―Senator Sani

Senator Shehu Sani

SENATOR representing Kaduna central zone in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani has said the arrogance of the Presidency and certain chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) would undermine its fortunes in next year general elections.

He made the declaration while speaking with newsmen in Abuja. He expressed concern that the Presidency has since shut its doors against genuine party faithful who want the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to succeed. He further noted that only a sustained interface with Nigerians, across party divides, would enable the present administration to surmount the present enormous challenges the country is contending with.

He said: “Well, it is very clear that we should vote for people irrespective of their political affiliation, those who can deliver us out of Egypt and to the promised land. We should move away from that thinking that one political party can solve the problems of Nigeria. The challenge is the crisis and the problems we face as the nation today cannot be addressed without a national consensus and without a collective approach to our national problems.

In a situation where we think the president has a monopoly of wisdom and the solution to the problems, we are simply deceiving ourselves. President Muhammadu alone cannot solve the problem of Nigeria, it is important for him to be honest and understand that it is also important for the APC to understand that. They must stretch the hands of friendship and cooperation to people irrespective of their political party affiliation and passion because the crisis in this country is so much in dimensional and it requires a national resolve and national unity in order to address it.”

The Chairman Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts said he was yet to dump the APC but admitted that he was “exploring options of getting out of the party.”

“I have not yet opted out of the APC but I can confirm we are talking with the PDP and we are talking with the APC and what is pushing us out of the APC is an inherent injustice, marginalisation and inequity that have visited us. We have been treated badly by the party in the last three years but we are appreciating that we have a chairman, in the person of Com. Adams Oshiomhole.

We are also exploring options for getting out of the party, who remain in the party. So, the issue is still in the discussion. Our decisions will be in a matter of weeks and not in the matter of months where we are going to review whether we will remain in the party or we will go to cross the red sea out of Egypt to the promised land.”

Meanwhile, the chairman of APC in Bauchi State, Umar Ahmed Nana has said the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara was free to leave the party.

Speaking with newsmen at the party national secretariat, Honourable Nana said his leadership was committed to genuine reconciliation with aggrieved chieftains but said it was not ready to accommodate those he claimed would complicate crisis in the party.

“So whether I will be worried or not be worried if the Speaker quits the party, you see as I have told you, as a party, we will always welcome people into our fold.

Our doors are always opened so even a person doesn’t have a political party he cannot bring another person apart from himself or herself, he is always welcome into our fold but we don’t intend and we are not interested in losing anybody regardless of the status of such person so we will not be party to lose any person but we always pray that let there be understanding among ourselves but if there is any person whose presence in our family will bring another complex problem we do pray that God in his infinite mercy help us so that person will leave us alone but we will not be happy to lose a single person.

There is no compulsion and if you look at the constitution of this nation each and every Nigerian has the right to the freedom of association so there is no compulsion but as a party we will welcome each and everyone with good intention and interest of the nation at heart so that we can build the nation together.”
