The ward congress of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 305 political wards in Imo State is in progress.
The State APC Director-General, Media Centre, Cajethan Duke, disclosed this journalists on Saturday at the party Secretariat, Okigwe Road, Owerri, shortly after the distribution of materials.
The media DG said that all necessary materials for the congress had been distributed at the party secretariat and had been dispatched to various wards for the exercise.
On the court injunction from the APC faction, Duke maintained that there was no court injunction stopping the election at all.
He insisted that if there was such court judgement, the people should brandish it for them to see it.
Our correspondent monitoring the congress in Owerri said that on arrival at Obitti/Mgbuisii ward in Ohaji/Egbema LGA, he saw party members already voting to elect their choice candidates.
The APC Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Mr. Obioma Obasi, after casting his votes told our correspondent that the congress was peaceful and was moving orderly, devoid of any trouble.
He said that party members and the entire people from the ward came out in their large numbers to cast their votes peacefully
At the Azu Uzi ward 3, in Owerri Municipal Coucil, the party members were seen filling out in great numbers to participate in the exercise.
The party leaders, men and women including the youths were equally at the voting centre to cast their votes for their choices.
The leaders of the ward and former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor Hope Uzodimma on Northern Affairs, Sulaiman Ibrahim Sulaiman, expressed joy over the peaceful conduct of the congress and the way people had been comporting themselves for the congress.
Also speaking, a prominent leader of the party in Ngor Okpala, Dr. Ethelbert Okere, the Director-General, Imo State Orientation Agency, described the exercise as peaceful and successful in his Nguru/Umuowa ward 6, while commending party faithful for their sustained support and solidarity to the party.
