APC sweeps Reps, Assembly by-elections in Kaduna

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has swept the bye-elections held in Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency and the state constituencies of Zaria and Sabon-Gari in Kaduna State.

Announcing the results of the by-election for the House of Representatives, Chikun/Kajuru federal constituency in Kaduna, Professor Abubakar Jumare said APC got 34,580 votes, ADC got 3,477 votes, while PDP got 11,491 votes.

He said: “Joseph Bagudu of APC, having satisfied the requirements, is hereby returned elected.”

Similarly, in the Zaria Kewaye Constituency, APC polled 26,613 to defeat the SDP candidate, who got 5,721 votes. The Returning Officer, Professor Balarabe Abdullahi, declared Isa Haruna of APC as the duly elected candidate.

Announcing the results of Barawa Constituency, the returning Officer, Professor Nasiru Rabiu, declared that APC polled 10,026 votes against PDP, which got 5,499 votes.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information-designate, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the sweeping victory of the APC is a demonstration of Governor Uba Sani’s inclusivity in governance and his commitment to the development of the entire state, irrespective of party and religious divides.

He said these victories show the spread of the party in non-strongholds and a consolidation of the party’s political dominance in Kaduna politics, especially as the contests were largely considered a test of might between the ruling party and the opposition.

Maiyaki said, “This emphatic victory has been described by political observers as ‘historic and symbolic,’ representing the breaking of a long-standing jinx in a constituency that had consistently resisted APC’s advances.

“With this breakthrough, the party has consolidated its hold on Kaduna State, stretching its dominance into territories that were once opposition fortresses.”

Analysts link the triumph to Governor Uba Sani’s grassroots-focused governance style and people-oriented projects.
