APC governors meet Osinbajo over national convention

Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo behind closed doors, on Thursday, July 20, 2017.

AGAINST the backdrop of confusion surrounding the conduct of the All Progressive Congress (APC) national convention, governors elected under the party met with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to determine the way forward.

Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, told State House correspondents after the meeting that the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari will not stop the conduct of the convention.
He explained that the convention was delayed because of the need to put the APC house in order.
Okorocha said: “We came to discuss issues relating to our party and our government and how to move our party forward.
“We discussed a lot of issues on how to move the party forward, how to strengthen the party and how to make sure our party remains victorious in all elections.
“Very soon, we will have convention. That is part of the things we are discussing.
“The convention not taking place has nothing to do with the absence of the president or the Acting President.
“We are just putting our house in order and making sure things are in the right form before we kick off.”
The governor also debunked speculation that the revival of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has put the ruling party under pressure to act, saying that the APC does not care about PDP.
He declared: “No, PDP is a non-issue. We don’t even care about that. We defeated them when they were in power. So, what is different when we are now in power?”
