Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, has called on the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to partner with the state government in the fight against corruption saying members of the union must imbibe patriotism to curb all corrupt practices in their work places.

The governor who made the call while addressing members of the NLC at the 2017 Workers’ Day celebration with the theme: “Labour Relations in Economic Recession: An Appraisal” in Jos, assured the union of government transparency and openness in dealing with labour.

He charged public workers to reciprocate the goodwill and sincere effort of government, with a greater commitment to duty and discipline adding the workers need to imbibe sense of patriotism to put a check on all corrupt practices in their various places of work.

“The fight against corruption does not only lie with the executives, but with all civil servants as the essential strata of the bureaucratic value chain of governance. You cannot afford to be left out in the collective fight to rid our country of this cankerworm that has made our common wealth the private estate of a corrupt few,” he said.

Governor Lalong pointed out that the administration has also implemented the new Medical Salary Scale in the State; the harmonization of pensions and inclusion of pensioners not captured; the release of promotions and the correction of anomalies in promotions and placements, where juniors are appointed permanent secretaries over their seniors amongst others.

According to him, all these are parts of the improvements in working conditions and reforms the government is making to improve on the general wellbeing of workers in the civil service adding that these are positive signs to ensure good Labour-Government relations for the good of all.

In his address the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Jibril Bancir commended resilience of the Plateau State workers for standing tall in giving their best despite the recession and ensuring that the engine room of government which is the workforce assist in economic recovery drive of not just the state government but Nigeria in general.

The State NLC Chairman also commended Governor Lalong for his workers friendly disposition and the achievement of his administration in ensuring some of the sundry issues presented last year were cleared.
