No fewer than four persons were killed in a midnight attack by gunmen in Jos South local government area of Plateau state on Wednesday, even as the Plateau State government has vowed to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act and to sustain the peace in the state.
TribuneOnline learnt that the gunmen invaded Kwata community of Jos South local government at about 9:00 pm on Wednesday and opened fire at random on the inhabitants and in the process gunned down four people while five other persons sustained gunshot wound.
According to an eyewitness, the incident caused pandemonium in the community and other adjourning villages as people ran helter-skelter for dear lives adding that the attack lasted for close to two hours before the gunmen bolted away in motorcycles before the arrival of security operatives.
However, the state Police Command in a statement signed by its Public Relation Officer, DSP Terna Tyopev Mathias said the State Police Command, Jos received a distress call to the effect that unknown cult groups armed with cutlasses, axe and guns attacked themselves near a Night Club at Kwata Zawan in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Police said as a result of the attack, four persons lost their lives while corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Plateau Specialist Hospital Mortuary for Autopsy adding that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Austin Agbonlahor has directed the immediate commencement of an investigation into the crime.
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong in a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information, Yakubu Dati has vowed to sustain the peace prevailing in the state despite efforts of some conflict merchants to instil fear in the populace.
Governor Lalong said recent reports of attacks in parts of Fan district of Barkin Ladi Local Government should not be seen as a victory of evil forces but an act of desperation to take the state back to the ugly past.
The Governor assured that security operatives have been directed to go after the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Dati explained security agencies have been directed to make effective coverage of flashpoint areas to prevent a further threat to lives and property.
He said government will not be deterred in its commitment to return internally displaced persons back to their ancestral land.
