The Anambra State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Chiefs Chris Uba and Linus Ukachukwu over alleged anti-party activities in the state.
The suspension of the duo was contained in a letter written by the acting chairman of PDP in the state, Comrade Okey Asolo and the Publicity Secretary, Mr Nnamdi Nwangwu addressed to the National Chairman, Dr Iyorcha Ayu.
The letter noted that PDP is the dominant political party in the state and cannot be left to the wimps and caprices of a few individuals who are mere political merchants.
The dramatis personae were accused of working in conceit with other political parties to ensure that PDP go into extinction as allegedly evidenced in their recent court actions.
The PDP executive council in Anambra State noted that if the accused persons are allowed to have their way, the party may not field any candidate for the 2023 general elections.
The letter was signed by acting state Chairman, Comrade Okey Asolo and Publicity Secretary, Nnamdi Nwangwu, dated 2nd April 2022, and copied to National Chairman, PDP, Dr Iyorcha Ayu.
Part of the suspension letter read thus, ‘Re: Suspension of Chief Chris Uba and chief Linus Ukachukwu from the PDP Anambra state chapter
“Arising from our executive Committee meeting held on 2nd day of April at the party secretariat, Udoka Anambra state, and having thoroughly X-rayed the problems of the party and activities in respect of the forthcoming 2023 general election, on further evaluation of the party’s electoral misfortunes in recent past Viz a viz the anti-party activities, abuse of privileges of the above party members, who had previously caused unimaginable damages to the electoral fortunes and stability of our great party,
“And to forestall their evil plans and that of their agents, the executive committee of Anambra state PDP in our meeting 2nd day of April 2022 resolve to wit: That pursuant to sections 58(1)a-m and 59 of the constitution of PDP 2017 as amended, Chief Christian Uba and Chief Linus Ukachukwu are hereby suspended from the party PDP Anambra state for a period of 30 days with effect from 2nd day of April 2022.
“Both Chief Chris Uba and chief Linus Ukachukwu will be referred to a disciplinary committee for further investigation and all necessary actions”.
Meanwhile, the party has reassured her teeming members and supporters that the purported Order emanating from an Abuja High Court is nothing to worry about.
The Publicity Secretary of PDP in Anambra State, Mr Nnamdi Nwangwu gave the assurance in a press release.
Mr Nwangwu noted that the claims that PDP in the state is in another round of crisis as Chief Chris Uba’s cronies have obtained an order of the FCT High Court hijacking the entire structures of the party in 14 LGAs of the state is a product of wishful thinking.
He said as a matter of fact that the Chief Judge of FCT Abuja has ruled that High Courts in Abuja should no longer entertain matters from states of the federation; that whoever has issues should go to the courts in their states.
The Publicity Secretary declared emphatically that the Local Goverment Area Congress in the remaining council areas were actually conducted last Tuesday 29th March 2022 and that the results would soon be ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP.
Mr Nwangwu while thanking the teeming members and supporters of PDP in Anambra State said that the big umbrella of the party is too big for an individual no matter how strong the person thinks he is to be hijacked.
He also said that the party cannot be distracted by the wishful thinking of the opponents of PDP who are not happy about the newfound harmony within the ranks and files as well as stakeholders of the party in Anambra State.
“PDP in Anambra State is passionately committed to contributing her quota in efforts to take over government at the centre so as to give Nigerians a responsible and responsive governance and as such cannot be distracted by non-existent issues being celebrated by disgruntled elements.”
