The Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Chukwuma Pius Okoye, has been honoured by Umuada Amawbia, popularly known as “Ugbogiliga” in the Awka South Council Area of the State.

The event, which was held at Amawbia Town Hall Field on Saturday, was attended by dignitaries from across the state and beyond, including past and present members of the House of Assembly, top government functionaries, and captains of industries.

The Honourable Okoye, who is also the member representing Awka Constituency 2, is a distinguished son of Amawbia, known for his philanthropic and exceptional representation of the constituency and vibrancy in the seventh and eighth assemblies.

The State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who was represented at the event by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, described Honourable Okoye as one of the engines in the development of the state.

The leader of Umuada Amawbia, Mrs. Ekene Nwanna, who spoke through Mrs. Ngozi Obiajulu, said that the event was organised by the women to welcome, appreciate, and encourage their son for all the dividends of democracy he has attracted to the community and across all the communities in the constituency.

Mrs. Nwanna said this was the reason they gathered to shower him with prayers and blessings so that he would continue to succeed and progress in all his endeavours.

The traditional prime minister of the town, Chief Nnaemeka Mmaduka, who spoke through Chief Felix Nzeamalu, said the testimonies of Honourable Okoye’s quality representation resonate in the communities that make up Awka Constituency 2.

A former Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, and a woman leader in the town, Chief Cecilia Anaekwe, said that the event proved the silent acknowledgements and love for their children and community in supporting and encouraging good morals and excellence in society and assured the lawmaker of their continuous support and prayers for him and his household.

Responding, the Honourable Okoye expressed gratitude to Umuada Amawbia and his community for their unwavering support and pledged to continue serving the state with dedication and excellence.

He called for unity of purpose in the town, urging them to stop escalating internal politics so as to move the community to greater heights.
