Amotekun bill scales first reading in Ogun Assembly

The Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) bill 2020 has scaled first reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly.

The bill was read by the Acting Clerk of the Assembly, Mr Deji Adeyemo, during plenary on Tuesday, at the Assembly Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaking on the bill, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, invited all stakeholders and members of the public to the public hearing on the bill scheduled for Monday, 24th February, 2020 at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, by 10:00 am prompt.

Meanwhile, the Assembly had expressed concern over security threats as regards the influx of motorcycle riders in the state.

The  Assembly unanimously passed a resolution asking the State Government through the State Park and Garages Development Board (PAGADEB), to put machineries in motion by creating a database to regulate the activities of motorcycle and tricycle riders, to checkmate any act of lawlessness and security issues.

The Chairman House Committee on Transportation. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, while opening debate on the motion said there was need for proper identification of operators of motorcycles and tricycles with registered jacket with tracking number for ease of identification of each rider in the State by security and regulatory agencies.

While the Speaker enjoined the State Government to empower PAGADEB  in carrying out the implementation of the resolution for effective and proper coordination in line with its stipulated mission and vision at ensuring an all-inclusive transport management.

The Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff thereafter moved the motion for the passage of the resolution, seconded by Solomon Osho and supported by all lawmakers through a voice vote.
