Nollywood actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo’s epic Netflix Original Yoruba movie JagunJagun has secured seven nominations for the prestigious 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
Tribune Online reports that the movie, released in 2023, previously won two awards at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
In the latest development, the film has been nominated in seven different categories at the 2024 AMAA Awards.
Announcing the news of the nominations on his verified Instagram account on Thursday, Femi Adebayo expressed his excitement over the new feat achieved by the movie.
He wrote, “Hey Guys, we’ve done it again!!! Delighted to announce JAGUN JAGUN clinched seven nominations at the 2024 AMAA AWARDS nominee announcement yesterday.”
The AMAA nominations for the movie include categories such as Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Production Design, Achievement in Makeup, the Ousmane Sembene Award for Best Film in an African Language, Achievement in Visual Effects, and the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) Award for Best Nigerian Film.
The blockbuster movie tells the story of a warlord (Ogundiji) who feels threatened by the potential of a young warrior school student (Gbotija).
It was produced by Femi Adebayo and co-directed by Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani. The film features top Nollywood actors such as Odunlade Adekola, Adebayo Salami, Dele Odule, Muyiwa Ademola, Fathia Balogun, Lateef Adedimeji, and Femi Adebayo himself, among others.
