Business and social activities were temporarily suspended in Akwakuma/Uratta community, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, at the weekend, as residents honoured their traditional ruler, Eze David Nnawuihe Onu Egwunwoke at his coronation

Speaking at the ceremony, Eze Egwunwoke described his coronation as a fulfilment of the cultural dictates and obligations of his throne as the Eze Udo III of Akwakuma/Uratta community.

He explained that the event marked the final of his ascension to the throne, following the presentation of a staff of office by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The monarch assured his people that the promotion of peace, unity and harmony will be the cornerstone of his reign.

He pledged to pursue policies and programmes capable of accelerating growth and development in the community, adding that his leadership will be anchored on inclusiveness and progress.

According to him, the presentation of the staff of office by the government symbolises the confidence reposed in him by both the authorities and his people.

He expressed optimism that his reign will help build the Akwakuma of the collective dreams of his subjects.

The monarch commended Uzodimma for the consistent implementation of the 3Rs agenda—Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery—saying the policy had positively impacted many communities in the state.

He also urged residents to uphold moral values, remain security conscious and celebrate responsibly.

He warned against indiscriminate use of fireworks and other acts capable of disrupting public peace, stressing that discipline will be enforced where necessary.

The traditional ruler appealed to the state and federal governments to urgently address the erosion gully ravaging parts of the community.

He noted that the gully poses a threat to homes and businesses, and has contributed to flooding and pollution of the Nworie River, a natural asset and potential tourist attraction.
