As part of efforts to fulfill his campaign promises of providing quality education for the people of the state, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri today flagged off the construction of brand-new model nursery, primary, and junior secondary schools—one in each of the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State.
At the groundbreaking ceremony held in Girei local government, the governor stated that the projects, which cost N14.9 billion naira, will be funded by the state, local governments, and local government councils in Adamawa.
According to Fintiri, “The projects, being the first phase, will make local governments proactive towards serving the people, ensuring that his administration will continue to ensure the equitable distribution of development.”
“It will be a fully equipped school that provides the right environment for modern learning at the basic level, from nursery, primary, and junior secondary school. It is expected to sit on a minimum of three hectares in each of our 21 Local Government Areas.”
Fintiri added that the model schools will encourage school enrollment, and therefore, he issued a warning to those parents and guardians who deny their children access to education; they will face prosecution.
He said his administration will continue to execute people-oriented projects and urged students to take advantage of the two hundred international science scholarship slots that will be offered by the government.
“The Ministry of Education and the Scholarship Board will soon roll out modalities for the State Government’s award of fully-funded international scholarships in key areas of science, engineering, ICT, and artificial intelligence to 200 beneficiaries.
“I call on prospective students to apply and have a lifetime opportunity to study in some of the best universities abroad,” said Governor Fintiri.
The State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Yayaji Mininyawa, revealed that the schools will serve as a significant milestone in the journey to providing quality education.
Noting that the model schools will serve as a beacon of excellence and will be equipped with modern technology and stimulating learning facilities.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, said the construction of these schools would no doubt address the menace of out-of-school children and other social vices in Adamawa and indeed Nigeria.
The State Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Abdussalam Gidado, who doubles as Chairman of Song Local Government Council, appreciates Governor Fintiri’s support in making the project a reality.
