United Nigeria Airlines has attributed reasons for the diversion of its Lagos/Abuja bound flight marked NUA 0504 to Asaba airport to poor weather.
The reports making the rounds indicated that the flight which originally departed Lagos and headed to Abuja wrongly landed at the Asaba airport due to an unclear flight plan.
The airline management in a statement issued by its image maker, Mr Achilleus Chud Uchegbu and made available to aviation journalists declared: “A United Nigeria airlines operating from the MMA2 in Lagos en route Abuja on Sunday, November 26, 2023, was temporarily diverted to the Asaba International Airport due to poor destination weather.
“At all material time, the Pilot of the aircraft was aware of the temporary diversion and was properly briefed.
“However, a wrong announcement was made by the cabin crew upon landing safely in Asaba, creating confusion among the passengers.
“Meanwhile, the aircraft has landed safely in Abuja following improvement on destination weather.”
The news making the rounds however stated that the flight diversion was caused by the wrong flight plan given to the pilot by the flight dispatcher on duty which confused the pilot.
As of the time of filing this report, the relevant aviation authorities have commenced investigations into the confusion.
