Influential members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Social Democratic Party, SDP and their structures in Abia state, on Friday, collapsed into the All Progressive Alliance, APC, with an assurance to help the party to gain power in the 2023 governorship election in the state.
They include former PDP stalwarts, Arch Anagha Mba, Chief Silvanus Nwaji, Barr Chibuike Nwokeukwu (SAN) and Hon. Dr Blessing Nwagba, former SDP governorship candidate in the 2019 election.
Receiving them at the APC secretariat in Umuahia, the state chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa thanked them for seeing the future APC represents in the state.
He assured them that they would have equal opportunities with existing members of the party, urging APC faithful not to discriminate against the new members.
The chairman, while urging them decampees to contribute meaningfully to the party, assured them that the party in the state was not fictionalised and charged members of the party to mobilize Abians to participate in the ongoing INEC continuous voters registration.
Speaking after being received, Hon Blessing Nwagba thanked APC for the opportunity given to them, stating that coming into the party was to add to the development of Abians and society.
She added that Abia deserved the best better and that her entrance in APC, would ensure Abia got better and would seek the support of Abians to draw dividends of democracy to the state.
Chibuike Nwokeukwu, SAN expressed his optimism that APC would win the governorship election come 2023 in Abia.
He said he had played roles in PDP but did not like the fact that Abians were not really represented at the federal level, hence his decision to “bring value to the party, strengthen it and ensure that whoever is going to vie for the office of the President in 2023, Abians will ensure that such a person is elected and in the business of democracy, Abians will not be lacking.”
Accordingly, Chief Sylvanus Nwaji and Architect Anagha Mba appreciated APC for the opportunity given to them by the APC in Abia to be part of them.
They assured me that they would help in mobilising new members for the party.
Addressing the press on behalf of Donatus Nwankpa, the Publicity Secretary, Benedict Godson assured that in the state come 2023, APC would sweep all polls in the state.
This, he said was evident in the number of senators and House of Representatives members the party now parades.
