NYSC Corps members deployed to serve in Abia State have been reminded that their posting to the 17 LGAs of Abia, was in line with the need of the state, according to the government policy passed down to the scheme.

In his address during the closing ceremony of the orientation programme for the Year 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps members deployed to Abia State, held at NYSC permanent orientation camp, Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, the State Coordinator NYSC Abia, Mr Jingi Denis, enjoined the corps members to integrate into the communities of the state and put into practice all that they learnt during the orientation course.

Mr Jingi urged them to discharge their duties in their Place of Primary Assignments, (PPAs) diligently, and take their Community Development Service (CDS) and Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) seriously.

“Do not jeopardise your personal security by engaging in unwholesome activities and frivolous unauthorised journeys.

“Respect the cultures and norms of the people of your host communities. Always remember to be good ambassadors of NYSC throughout your service year. Remember, you are the apostles of the Nigerian unity, and you must not fail the nation at this point,” Jingi charged them.

Jingi encouraged the corps members to always show the light and educate their host communities on the new wave of COVID-19 and how to guide against it, just as they were taught in the orientation camp.

“I am glad that you conformed to the rules and regulations guiding the orientation course, with its regimentation, in particular the COVID-19 protocols of social distancing, wearing of facemasks, use of hand sanitisers and proper washing of the hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds. Despite the raging of the 3rd wave of the COVID-19 with its variants, we all overcame.

“However my children, it is not over until it is over, COVID-19 pandemic is not yet gone, we still hear of different kinds of variants of the disease including the Delta variants and others yet to be known.

“As such you must continue to maintain the protocols even in your host communities and places of primary assignments.

“You must at all times show the light. Together we shall all overcome this dreaded global pandemic by taking responsibility,” he further urged the corps members.

He expressed his optimism that the youths would actively participate in their assignments as they had done in their respective platoons and committees and seized the opportunity to appreciate the collaborating agencies and Abia State Government, under the leadership of Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, for providing the enabling environment for corps members in the state to operate and showcase their God-given talent.

A total number of 1432 corps members comprising of 599 males and 833 females passed out from the camp.
