The district head of Wawa also known as Dodo of Wawa in Borgu Emirate, Borgu local government area of Niger State, Alhaji Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu has been released by his abductors.
A statement issued and made available to journalists on Saturday in Minna by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Mary Noel- Berje confirmed the development.
The statement added that the embattled District head was said to have been released without payment of ransom to his abductors.
A family member also confirmed in a telephone interview with Tribune Online that the embattled District head of Wawa community in Borgu Emirate of Borgu Local Government Area of the state was released about 7.30 pm on Friday by his abductors.
A top title holder in Wawa, Mallam Bala Gala told the newsmen that “We are in celebration mood, the Dodo of Wawa who was picked up by the bandits last weekend has been released.
“We are elated that after spending a week with his abductors, he was released just now, we thank God for his mercy.”
It was alleged that the District head in Borgu Emirate in the state was abducted by gunmen suspected to be bandits because of his long-standing opposition against the illegal activities of some foreign Fulani men who came from the neighbouring Republic of Benin and the Niger Republic to settle in the area and were said to be perpetrating all forms of crime.
