The senior pastor of God’s Elect Ministries International, Ibadan, Oyo State, Pastor Bola Longe, has charged the Nigeria Police, especially in Oyo state, to always shun bribery and discharge their primary duty with dignity and fear of God.
Longe made this known, on Friday, at the annual Police Dinner Outreach organised by the Gethsemane Prayer Ministries International, Ibadan, Oyo State in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Command, Oyo State.
The policeman-turned-cleric and former Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police noted that it was time Nigeria Police personnel detached themselves from bribery and any ungodly acts, hence, they should embrace dignity and fear of God in all ramifications as a security agent.
Dignitaries that graced the event with the theme, “Servant of God and Servant of Man,” include the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale; Pastor and (Mrs) Longe; Oyo Deputy Commissioner of Police, Adamu Muhammed, among others.
The Gethsemane Prayer Ministries, Reverend (Dr) Moses Aransiola, noted that the initiative was part of his commitment to encourage policemen as well as to boost their courage against the negative stigma about the Nigerian police force.
“This is one of the core responsibilities of Christians. We have come to identify with the police and also to boost their morals, motivate, impact, and pray with them. We are convinced that all this will go a long way in their lives and will inspire them positively in discharging their primary duties assignments as security agents in the country,” he added.
The chairman planning committee of the event, Pastor Demeji Adeyemo, noted that 35 policemen were honoured with excellence awards and 10 outstanding policemen were presented with gifts through the recommendation of the Oyo State Commissioner of Police.
In his remarks, DCP Muhammed, who represented the Commissioner of Police, commended Reverend Aransiola and his ministry for rewarding the police force through the initiative, just as he described it as a welcome development and an inspiration to do more.
“This event will remain annual as it will encourage fellow policemen to be more committed and even bring about competition for excellence among the police. This is a great initiative and we are happy that we are being appreciated as a result of our efforts,” he added.
