THE Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, said it had killed three female suicide bombers when they tried to ram into troops in Dutse area of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Also, members of a vigilance group in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, on Wednesday, shot dead three suspected female suicide bombers attempting to enter the Gulak market.
Gulak is the headquaters of Madagali Local Government Area of the state.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Lucky Irabor, confirmed the Borno incident to newsmen in Maiduguri.
Irabor said the three female suicide bombers were intercepted following an intelligence report on their going toward Limankara in Gwoza Council.
“Just this morning, we intercepted the bombers but the three of them resisted and tried to ram into our troops. And, of course, we had no choice but to open fire on them,” he said.
He explained that the Nigerian troops and their Cameroonian counterparts had been making remarkable progress and recoveries in Ngwoshe axis and Gwoza hills.
“Our troops and those of the Camaroon Republic have been recording tremendous successes in flushing out remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists in that axis.
“And of course during the operation, we discovered stockpile of arms and ammunitions.
“We also intercepted 30 cows at Cashew plantation here in Maiduguri capital.
“We also arrested one of the most wanted Boko Haram terrorists, number 164 on our list,” the commander added.
In Adamawa, chairman of Madagali Local Government, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed, confirmed the killing of suspected bombers, saying they were sighted from a distance by members of the vigilance group, who were on patrol around the Bakin Dutse area.
He said suspects were ordered by the vigilantes to stop, but they refused.
“The shots by the vigilantes detonated the explosives on two of the suspected bombers.
“Although the explosive device on the third suspect did not set off, the explosion of the devices on the two other suspects killed her.
“We suspect the bombers were on their way to Gulak market as today is the market day,” Mohammed said.
When contacted, the spokesman of the 28 Task-Force Battalion, Mubi, Major Akintoye Badare, confirmed the incident, which, he said, occurred at about 10.00 a.m. at Bakin Dutse, near Gulak town.
Badare did not say whether the suspected female bombers were children or adults.
“Things are now okay. Our men are at alert as usual,” Badare said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the Army had, on Tuesday, repelled attacks from some fleeing insurgents at Dar village in the same local government.
