The year is fast coming to an end, and it’s a great time to slow down, reflect, and prepare for bigger opportunities. If you want to enter January with more clarity and confidence, the end of the year is a good time to pause and take stock of your year.

Contents
  • 1. Have a review
  • 2. Update your CV and profiles
  • 3. Learn a new skill
  • 4. Set clear goals
  • 5. Declutter workspace
  • 6. Refuel connections

You really don’t need a major job change to feel refreshed. Sometimes, just one or two steps can help you feel more focused and alive.

Let’s examine the ways you can achieve this before the new year.

1. Have a review

You can reset your career for new year by reflecting on your wins, losses, and lessons. You could take a moment to look back on the past months and take note of what you did well, the challenges that shaped you. Write them down.

This will help you see how far you have come and show you what habits you should or shouldn’t carry into the new year. This will help you enter the new year with clarity.

    2. Update your CV and profiles

Even if you are not looking for a job, update your CV, portfolio, and your profiles across social media. You can add new projects, skills, and achievements.

You can remove details that no longer reflect who you are. This will not only reset your career for the new year but also position you for unexpected opportunities.

      3. Learn a new skill

Choose a simple skill that can improve your work. It could be communication, data analysis, design, writing, or leadership. You don’t have to take big courses.

You can reset your career in preparation for the new year by learning something new. It’ll keep your mind active and make you a more valuable person.

        4. Set clear goals

Reset for the new year with the first three months in mind. Create simple but clear goals to help you stay consistent and motivated. Identify what you want to achieve and make the goals small for an easy and quick start.

          5. Declutter workspace

Dealing with a messy space translates to a messy mind. You should clear your desk, organise documents, and delete unnecessary emails.

A good way to reset your career for the new year is to create a system that makes it look easy for you to find what you need. It helps you focus and feel more relaxed.

            6. Refuel connections

Refuelling connection with a network of people who inspire you is a wise way to prepare for the new year. Send a message to that old colleague, mentor, friend, or community.

Conversations with them can open your mind to new ideas and a renewed energy. Above all, seek healthy relationships and not otherwise.

Remember that the need to reset your career doesn’t always translate to quitting your job. Sometimes it’s renewing your mindset, learning better habits, and having fresh energy to face the new year.
