The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), on Monday, commenced screening of 400 students from the North-East sub-region for scholarship awards to enable them to undergo higher degrees in the oil and gas industry under its foreign scholarship scheme.
The qualified students, who are studying various science and technology-related courses, especially in the oil and gas sector, are undergoing the scholarship screening exercise for Master’s and PhD degrees in oil and gas-related courses at its centre located at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.
According to the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Ahmed Galadima Aminu, the fund’s primary objective is to build capacities and competencies in the oil and gas industry.
He explained that the scholarship programme was designed to support Nigerian students who are pursuing advanced degrees in oil and gas-related fields, with the aim of developing a pool of highly skilled professionals who can contribute to the growth and development of the industry.
Represented by Mallam Mannir Abubakar, Manager Research and Innovation of the fund in the North-East centre, he stressed that the PTDF’s commitment to capacity building is crucial to the growth and development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Aminu further emphasised that the PTDF’s scholarship programme was designed to support students who are passionate about pursuing careers in the oil and gas industry.
The Executive Secretary expressed confidence that the scholarship programme will produce highly skilled professionals who will contribute to the growth and development of the industry.
He reaffirmed the PTDF’s commitment to developing indigenous human capital and promoting STEM education in Nigeria.

To be eligible for the scholarship, according to Aminu, candidates must possess five credits, including English and Mathematics and degrees in oil and gas-related courses.
The duration of the PhD programme is two years, while the Master’s programme is five years as the PTDF’s scholarship programme was designed to support students who are passionate about pursuing careers in the oil and gas industry, saying, ”We wish all the candidates the best of luck in the selection processes,” Aminu said.
A candidate from Gombe State, Bello Abubakar Dauda, expressed hope that he would benefit from the scholarship programme praying that the selection process will be fair, just and transparent.
Bello noted that the scholarship programme will be a game-changer for him, to pursue his dreams and achieve his goals.
