The Special Counsel to the Governor of Oyo State, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), has commended Governor Seyi Makinde on his efforts and foresight in ensuring that Shooting Stars Football Club plays in the elite season, adding that this is a sign of the governor’s commitment to sports development.
The senior lawyer, who is a long-standing supporter of the club, said the glorious days of the club are back again adding that football has returned home to Ibadan and Oyo State and Governor Makinde deserves all the commendations for this lofty achievement in returning Shooting Stars Sports Club, Ibadan to the top-flight league.
Ayorinde noted that Shooting Stars would be playing in the elite division in a befitting home stadium at the just remodeled Lekan Salami Stadium, which is one of the legacies of the Seyi Makinde administration, noting that he has seen consistency in sports development in Oyo state since Makinde became the governor of the state.
He applauded the governor and management of the club for ensuring that salaries are being paid as at when due, especially at the crucial period of the Covid-19 pandemic, stressing that the state has been doing great exploits in sporting activities.
According to him, it is clear to the people of Oyo State that Governor Makinde is an achiever and has continued to demonstrate that his administration is committed to engaging and developing youths in Oyo state both in education and in extra curriculum activities.
“What is needed at this crucial time is active engagement of the youth. Sport is a veritable tool for human resource development and a means of generating employment. I am aware of the development of other stadia in other zones of the State. I am also aware that sporting facilities will be provided in all the Local Government Areas. Infrastructure development has to be impactful to be meaningful,” he said.
Ayorinde described prompt involvement and intervention of the administration of Governor Makinde in youth engagement as remarkable and worthwhile, adding that it is worthy of note that Oyo State is endowed with relevant potentials to advance sporting activities.
