The Nigerian Correctional Service Arms Training School (CSATS) has passed out 282 junior personnel after its 9th Basic Recruits Course in Imo State.
This brings the total number of Conventional Personnel trained by the institution since its inception in 2004 to 80,797.
Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, disclosed this during the Passing Out Parade held at the CSATS training ground in Owerri.
Nababa who was represented by the Service’s Zonal Controller for Zone “E”, Sunanu Kinane, commended the Commandant, directing staff and instructors for adapting their new curriculum to contemporary realities of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019.
Nababa described the course as a mandatory training that is designed to mould personality, character and psyche of trainees so as to enable them to align with all the tenets of a paramilitary outfit.
He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his support, while restating the Service’s commitment to discipline and obedience to constituted authority.
He said: “I wish to commend the Commandant, directing and instructing staff for a brilliant parade today in spite of numerous challenges in administering this institution.
The CG affirmed that the Service under his headship has zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct.
He said:” Any act of disloyalty or disobedience to constituted authority will be decisively dealt with in line with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019 and the Standing Order “.
Speaking, the CSATS Commandant in Owerri, Charles Esan, commended other security agencies in the state for their support, adding that the course commenced on Jan. 5, 2021.
He however, listed some of the challenges confronting the School to include construction of modern students hostel, procurement of electricity transformer and absence of barrack accommodation among others.
He said: “this course has gracefully come to a successful conclusion despite some challenges which we were able to surmount, thanks to unflinching support from the Controller General of Correctional Service and our sister agencies.”
“I therefore have the honour to present to the Controller General these 282 trainees as graduands who have successfully completed the Batch ‘B’ 9th Basic Recruits Course,” Esan enthused.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to five distinguished graduands for their outstanding performances during the course of the training.
The event was honoured by heads of all security agencies in Imo State.
