The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, led by Abudulrahman Mohammed, has successfully screened three senatorial and 131 House of Assembly aspirants. Aspirants for the House of Representatives were chosen by consensus.
Speaking with reporters in Jos, Plateau State, the Chairman of the Screening Committee, Tyem Gideon Nanden, announced that with the completion of the screening exercise, the screened aspirants are set for the primary elections scheduled for next Wednesday.
Nanden noted that most aspirants emerged through consensus. He also mentioned that five members who expressed interest in the governorship position are currently being screened in Abuja.
The governorship aspirants identified are Chief Kefas Wungak Ropchik (Kefiano), Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam.
Furthermore, Nanden identified Johnbuil Shekarau, Timothy Golu, and Formson Godson Dalyop as the three candidates for the three senatorial districts in the state. He added that all House of Representatives aspirants were selected by consensus, except for the Langtang North/Langtang South seat, which is still under contention.
The chairman of the screening committee said that about 131 aspirants have expressed interest in the 24-member House of Assembly and would participate in the primary election to select the candidates.
Nanden, who was the immediate past chairman of the caretaker committee of the party, said, “Our primary focus is to select candidates and to ensure PDP’s preparedness for the 2027 elections:
“As you can see from the crowd waiting to be screened, the patronage is impressive, spirits high, and they’re all in full swing preparations.

“We screened three Senate aspirants, one for each zone (Southern, Central, and Northern Plateau). All three are consensus candidates, meaning they are unopposed and have been effectively selected.
“Apart from two specific federal constituencies (Lantan North and Lantang South), all other screened candidates for the House of Representatives are also consensus candidates.
Addressing Internal party Issues, especially concerns about court cases and factionalism within the PDP, the chairman said, “There are no current court cases within the PDP, the party is recognised by INEC and the party is united under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed as the national chairman) and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the national secretary.
He discountenanced any thought of the faction led by Taminu Turaki presenting candidates for the election, asserting that “the Turaki faction is non-existent and incapable of submitting names to INEC.”
The PDP explicitly stated its goal of recovering its position in Plateau State in the 2027 elections, particularly the governorship seat.
