The former speaker of the Taraba State house of assembly, Hon. Abel Diah has vowed that the next set of leadership in Taraba come 2023, must be people of competence and those that know the state very well.
Diah stated this, on Wednesday during his 50th, birthday party in his residence in Jalingo noted that leadership was not by age and Tarabans would not accept people of no competence and those who do not know the state.
The ex-speaker lamented the poor state of Taraba at the moment, called on people of the state to vote for competent individuals who would attract development for the state as leadership was not by age and the development of Taraba was beyond the interstate of an individual.
“Taraba State is beyond an individual. It’s not about me, it’s about Taraba State. I want to see a greater Taraba other than what we have now.”
“What we are seeing today is not what we know the state to be. Leadership is not by age, it’s by competence, we can not in 2023 allow someone who doesn’t have the competence and doesn’t know Taraba to rule the state.
“We must work together to reunite Taraba State. The state is no longer what we use to know, Taraba is our own and we must all work together to make it better,” Diah stated.
The three-time Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly and member representing Mbamga State Constituency, however, challenged Nigerian youths to brace up for leadership and stop insulting people on social media.
He urged the youth to take their future into their hands and embark on practical steps to claim the leadership of the country.
“Insulting people on social media will not help you. Those who hired you and give you peanuts to be insulting elders on social media have their children schooling in the best universities in the world.
“Most of their children are not even on WhatsApp and Facebook. So, you must learn from this and move on. You must change the narrative and stop being used as political thugs and praise singers,” He advised.
In his remarks, former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Jonah Kataps lauded the leadership qualities of Hon. Abel who he said has been in the leadership position for the past 26 years, challenge the youths to follow in his footsteps to make Taraba great.
