Sixteen-year-old Bemiwo Adesina has attributed his deep passion for writing and reading to his exposure to mythology and fictional works very early in life by his uncle.
Making the disclosure in Lagos recently at the launch of his maiden literary work, ‘The Black Dragon’, Bemiwo said the exposure to different literary pieces built his confidence of also writing his own book before attaining adulthood.
According to him, a particular literary piece, titled: ‘The Rat Race,’ given to him by his uncle, Tunde Laye, was one of those inspirations he got while growing up.
He said: “I am delighted to be launching my maiden book. It is a significant contribution to the body of knowledge. This book is a product of my passion for reading and writing. I started drawing inspiration from a book given to me by my uncle, Tunde Laye, titled ‘The Rat Race’.”
Bemiwo, presently a student of Lifeforte International High School, Apete, Ibadan, explained that the new book is designed to encourage teenagers to hone their literary skills, with the ultimate aim of becoming useful to themselves and the society.
The book, published in 2020 by Makere Publishing House, intends to pass the message of the infallibility of mortals to the readers.
“The book will mean different things to different people. But one of its huge lessons is that no man is completely good or bad; we are all a mixture of both.
“I hope that this will encourage more teenagers to key into their literal abilities and skills.
“I appreciate the love and support of my parents which has made this book a reality,” Bemiwo, who intends to become a medical doctor in future, added.
The child author also advised parents to support their children in whatever path they choose to follow based on the talent God has deposited in them.
Speaking at the public presentation, chairman on the occasion, the Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Noheem Adams, described Bemiwo’s contribution to the body of knowledge as one that should be encouraged.
Honourable Adams also expressed his readiness to ensure that the book is made available at the Lagos State library to encourage the author.
