As part of theĀ activities lined up to mark the 2021 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) nationwide, over 1,000 residents of Abeokuta benefitted from free medical outreach at Ijaye Titun in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, as organised by 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta.
The outreach is aimed at improving the health of the people, as well as foster better relationships between the military and civilians in the community.
Addressing journalists, theĀ Brigade Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier Gen. Adewale Adekoya, said the gesture was part of the mandate of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahyah, to let the citizens understand that the Nigerian Army are to secure the citizen and not to scare them.
“We are to reach out to about a thousand beneficiaries. We have drugs here which we have provided to cover as many as they are here to benefit out of the free medical outreach,” he said.
HeĀ appreciated the Governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun for his support concerning security in the state.
“In terms of security, since I took over the command , I have been going roundĀ to ensure that I create a Defence Shield round the entire Ogun State.
“I assured you that very soon the security we will be launching Operation Mesa which he (Abiodun) sought permission from the Chief of Army Staff on the 8th of November, 2020, and he has granted approval on the 12th November last year. The Executive Governor will soon be activating Operation Mesa in the state.
“When the executive Governor does that, I can assure you that Ogun State people will sleep with their two eyes closed.
“All issues of kidnapping, cultism, and all issues of various social vicesĀ that have been ravaging the stateĀ including banditry, and even our various forest reserve have been taken over by various bandit, smuggling, vandalism, I can assure you when Operation Mesa commences, I assure you that Ogun State will be the most secured state in Nigeria.
The Transition Committee Chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government, Prince Babatunde Tella, commended the effort of the Nigerian Army for contributing their quota to meet the social welfare of the people.
“I believe the community will appreciate it the more because they will gain all the medical things that are given here.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 35 Artillery Brigade Chapter, Abeokuta, Ogun State paid a courtesy visit to Stella Obasanjo motherless home with cash and gift.
The wife of the commander and the zonal coordinator, Mrs Adeola Adekoya sympathizes with the children and appreciated the care and love people showed to them.
“It is very pathetic to have people abandoning children at this time. It is very painful to see children at this time who don’t have parents, thank God for people that are here taking care of these children.
She advised parents to take good care of their children and shouldn’t abandoned them.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Okon who is the widows coordinator, Alamala Barracks appreciated the gesture, said “some of the villagers don’t have money to take care of themselves but through this outreach, a lot of them came out in large numbers to take care of themselves and get drugs for free.
