100 days: Akeredolu designs special package for elderly, widow

The Ondo State government has set aside millions of Naira as Special Welfare package for the aged and widows in the state, as part of activities to mark the first 100 days of second term of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in office.

The Chairman of the Planning Committee and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Princess Oladunni Odu, who disclosed this during a press conference to herald the celebration of the first 100 days, said at least 40 aged and widows would be picked from each of the 18 local government areas of the state.

She said 720 elderly and widows from the state had already been billed to benefit from the initiative.

Odu who explained that apart from the feeding, the women would be given a token of N5000 each, saying this will be a continuous exercise while she revealed that the women had been captured earlier by the state government.

Odu also disclosed that apart from inauguration of many developmental projects executed by the Akeredolu’s led government, about 7000 students from the state across the higher institutions in the country would also benefited from special bursary of N10,000 each, saying law and medical students will be awarded with N50,000 each.”

She said teachers and students who have distinguished themselves will also be rewarded by the state government during the two weeks long programme.

She noted that though few of the projects were carried over to Akeredolu’s second term in office, many others were the ones executed in the last 100 days but said the projects are part of the present government initiative to boost the socio-economic status of the State.

Speaking listed the projects to be inaugurated during the celebration to include, road construction, water projects known as Kamomi Aketi which will be commissiined in Akure, Owo, Okeigbo, Iboropa and Ilutitun.

Some of the activities lined up also include the launching of the 20 new Patrol vehicles for the Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun, the Commissioning of Administrative Headquarters Building of the corps and the Passing-out ceremony for newly-recruited Corps Officers.

She said the state government will also hand over the Oba Isreal Adeusi Memorial Hospital in Ifon to the Ministry of Health while about 1,000 Insecticide treated Nets (ITN) will be distributed to Pregnant Women and Donation of bus to Contributory Health Commission (CHC).

She said: “The projects to be inaugurated include the construction of slaughter slab in Akungba Akoko, repair of Jigbokin market Odode Idanre, Improvement of police post at Ugbonla Ilaje and the rehabilitation/bridge construction in Ifesowapo Igoba.

“Others include improvement of facilities in community grammar school Adaja Odigbo, Construction of Civic center in Igorisa community Ode-aye, construction of mosque in the government house, Lipanu/Atunranse wooden foot bridge Irele, the groundbreaking of Fish Cabinet Dryer at Araromi seaside Ilaje, groundbreaking of Garri Processing Factory at Oboto and feeding of the elderly (40 per LG).
