Winners emerge in SYNW writing competition

SYNWThe Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), the umbrella body for young Nigerian writers across the nation, in conjunction with the Young Nigerian Writers Merit Awards (YNWMA) Committee, has announced the winners of this year writers’ competition.

The award, which started six years ago, has since become a platform for promoting youths’ interest in writing.

The 2017 edition was first announced on June 2, and the organising committee, headed by Mr Wole Adedoyin, began receiving entries for all categories announced few days after, till the expiration of the deadline on July 31.

However, only the selected winners for each category were contacted and rewarded.

The winners are: Mbadugha Chigozie Anuli, who emerged the winner of the Samuel Ajayi Crowther Award for Best Religious Book with his book, “Beyond the trial.”

Also, Olawale Wasiu Jimoh, who authored “Big Brother Africa -What Lesson? won the John Bunyan Award for Creative Writing/Best Essay, while Akalonu Ndudi Onyinyechukwu won Matthew Ashimolowo Award for Christian Literature with the book, Not Easy But Gainful Waiting.

Other winners are Njamah Udey Christian, who emerged the Best Teen Poet with his entry, “Daddy Is At Home, while Udedike Peter Chigozie emerged the winner of Ezenwa Ohaeto Award for Best Playwright.

Of the total of 1,117 entries submitted, 410 were outrightly disqualified based on judges’ decision.
